These are just a could of photos that I took of a USA Map mounted on my office wall. It shows yellow and white tabs where ever we have exhibited submitted dream rocket artworks sense May 2010. (24 months) However, I am missing several dozen on Kansas because I ran out of room. :(

It shows yellow and white tabs where ever we have exhibited submitted dream rocket artworks sense July 21, 2011. (8 months).
I know that we must be missing a few on this map and newer sign-ups have not made it onto this map yet.
Some of these tabs are not on the other USA map because I ran out of room on the state of Kansas.

I picked up our University Newspaper (Washburn Review) on the way to lunch and look what I noticed in the top right corner of the paper's cover page. :)

Bellevue Elementary School Students Participate in “Dream Rocket Project”

Students from Mrs. Holtzman's art classes at Bellevue Elementary School have created a panel for the Dream Rocket Project. The theme of the Dream Rocket Project was "Dare to Dream" and challenges students to expand beyond the present state of the world and imagine the future, and their contributions to the future.

The panel created by the students at Bellevue was submitted to the International Fiber Collaborative (IFC), which is collecting panels from all over the world, and will then be connecting them side by side to wrap the Saturn V Moon Rocket at the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Prior to submitting the panel to the IFC it was on display at the Mundy Branch Library in celebration of Black History Month and Dr. Martin Luther King's 1963 speech "I Have a Dream".

Kansas students create art for Dream Rocket Project

Art created by Kansas students will be among those wrapped around a 365-foot replica of the Saturn V rocket at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala.

A visiting assistant professor at Washburn University helped elementary students from Rossville and St. Mary create 550 pieces of artwork for the Dream Rocket Project.

A news release from the Topeka university says the Saturn V rocket will be wrapped with more than 8,000 pieces of art in 2014.

Beforehand, all submissions are being displayed in venues such as libraries, schools and museums. A show is planned at the Wamego Public Library in April.

The young artists submitting their work come from hundreds of cities across the United States and other countries.

"Part of Ewalt Elementary School’s presentation at Monday’s School Board meeting concerned each Ewalt student’s participation in  the Dream Rocket project.  Lynn Archer, Ewalt fourth grade teacher, explained that the project is a large scale collaborative “wrap.”....

The community will be invited to ‘Dream Rocket Day’ on May 1st and view the students’ art pieces about their dreams."

Dream Rocket Project At Liberal's Memorial Library

LIBERAL, Kan.  --- The Liberal Memorial Library is exhibiting artworks from The Dream Rocket Project, an international public art project, through the month of February.

In 2009, the International Fiber Collaborative launched The Dream Rocket Project, a collection of approximately 8,000 art pieces made of fabric and textiles from the United States and various regions of the world.

The work that is currently on display at Liberal Memorial Library was submitted from schools, groups and individuals residing in states such as AL, OH, KY, NC, FL, NY and KS. A number of these works were created by schools located in Kansas such as Jefferson Co. North High School in Winchester and Free State High School in Lawrence.

In 2014, this artwork will be joined with the other pieces to wrap around a 365-foot Saturn V Moon Rocket replica at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala.

Prior to the wrapping of the Saturn V, all submissions are being displayed in venues such as libraries, schools and museums. Since May 2010, the Dream Rocket team has completed 44 exhibits and has scheduled a total of 81, including the show at the Liberal Memorial Public Library.

The designated theme of the panels, “Dare to Dream,” challenges individuals to expand beyond the present state of the world and imagine the future. Perhaps most importantly, individuals are challenged to imagine their contribution to that future. These individual dreams & aspirations will combine to create a monumental 32,000 square feet work art, providing a tangible demonstration of the beauty of individuals collaborating to meet universal challenges.

The creation of the panels has been a catalyst for creativity in health care facilities, libraries, schools, museums, and for individuals. While the Dream Rocket team works on collecting submitted artworks for this giant wrap, they are placing submitted artworks on display in national & international venues up until the time that the Saturn V is wrapped.

To date, the Dream Rocket team has received submissions representing 351 cities, 49 states and countless countries.

The IFC was founded by Jennifer Marsh in a response to the growing need within her community for supplemental arts education for public schools, community arts, and perhaps most importantly, an outlet for individuals around the world to find common ground. Using the arts as a vehicle for learning, collaboration, and inspiration, the IFC continues to address the increasing needs of society, communities, and individuals. Rossville and St. Marys elementary school students create large quantity of artwork for Dream Rocket Project

TOPEKA -- Five hundred-fifty artworks have been collected this week from students in kindergarten through sixth grade at Rossville and St. Marys elementary schools in conjunction with the international public art project, The Dream Rocket Project.
In 2014, the art will be joined with approximately 8,000 other works to wrap a 365-foot Saturn V Moon Rocket replica at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala. Prior to the wrapping of the Saturn V, all submissions are being displayed in venues such as libraries, schools and museums. Since May 2010,
the Dream Rocket team has completed 44 exhibits and has scheduled a total of 81, including a show at the Wamego (Kan.) Public Library April 1 to 30.
To date, the Dream Rocket team has received submissions representing 351 cities, 49 states and countless countries.

The quantity of art was produced in 29 classes taught by Jennifer Marsh, visiting assistant professor and Catron Fellow at Washburn University, and Nadine Fisher, art teacher at St. Marys and Rossville elementary schools.

Dream Rocket Project Panel Display at Mundy Branch Library

During February, visitors to Mundy Branch Library can enjoy an exhibit of original quilt panels created for the Dream Rocket Project.  Select submissions in this international community art project include panels from as far away as Oregon and as close as Syracuse, designed by people of all ages.  The panels will eventually be used to wrap the Saturn V rocket in 2014.  For more information, please visit www.thedreamrocket.com

Letter to the President

Recently I had asked Courtney Weida (President of our Board) to write a letter to the President asking permission to display submitted student artwork in the White House.

We all take turns doing this every few months, knowing that the likely hood is very slim to none that we would be granted permission, but it doesn't hurt to try!

So, we actually did get a rejection letter in the mail (see attached) I was thrilled to have actually received a response!  It was exciting to see it in the mail!
