Title: “We Are All...”
Dream Theme: Equality
Materials and Techniques Used: Hand sewn and machine sewn thread on fabric.
Story behind artwork:
“When making this work, I wanted to find a new way to represent equality. Scott McCloud says that the abstracted figure is easier for people to identify with. I felt that by representing people by shapes and colors that I could give people a new way to view the world that puts equality into a new light. All of the shapes, colors, and pairings are different, yet they all have things in common. I want people to look at this piece and think about all those shapes and colors and to assign their own roles for each color and shape, and to then think about what they all are.”

Dream Theme: Equality

Materials & Techniques Used: Acrylic paint, fabric collage, embroidery
What is your group’s artwork about?
Chaffee's 4th grade gifted and talented class worked on the Equality panel. We chose to do the Equality panel as the culminating activity for our Equality unit. We loved working on the panel. It was a lot of fun. It is great to be able to use our artistic skills and express ourselves. We worked hard on this and it took a long time to complete. First we painted the world and the black background. That was quite messy.
Next we embroidered the important elements of equality on the border. We all worked on the people with each of us getting to decorate one person. Each one is unique and beautiful. We really showed our creativity in the way we embellished our person. There really was a lot of thinking involved in deciding on a design, the important elements of equality, and how to show individuality and togetherness at the same time. We are very proud of our panel and are excited to have it shown through exhibits and the on web.
What other projects could the IFC do?
“A large weaving that incorporates personal fiber to recognize/support someone’s struggles. (ie Aids Quilt)

Dream Theme: diversity

Techniques & Materials Used:
Mixed -- appliqué~, stitched, paint, patches, markers Cloth -- scrap pieces donated from families
What is your group's artwork about?
As Cadette Girl Scouts, the girls determine the structure and direction of meetings and projects. This is a new concept for our girls who are use to adults giving direction.
When they were challenged to come up with a design for the panel, they could not agree upon a single design. In a negotiated compromise, each girl was allocated an 8x8 square to implement her own design. The panel reflects the diversity of the ideas and dreams of adolescent girls.
