Chain of Lakes' Quilters from Central Lake, MI
Written by Jennifer MarshCreated by Chain of Lakes' Quilters from Central Lake, MI
Organizer: Marcia Waara
Marcia planned the piece, stitched the embroidery parts and machine quilted the final artwork.
Dream Theme: Education
Title: Teach Your Neighbor--Reach the World
Materials and Techniques Used: 4" fabric blocks were created to represent each interest. The Dream theme was stitched with an embroidery machine. All blocks were put together to make a quilted panel.
What is the story behind your group’s artwork submission?
Members of our quilt guild are very generous with their talents. Many have taught others locally to participate in their art, hobby or other passion. If those people "pass it on" to the next interested people, the domino effect will take place and interested parties around the world will be reached. Members of our quilt club are passionate about: sailing, water sports, vegetable and flower gardening, machine embroidery and stitchery, patchwork, quilting, animal husbandry, puzzling, mah-jongg, home construction, pets, knitting, weaving, basketry, sports and lighthouses.

What is your artwork submission about?
We chose the theme: A Community of Art Educators, because it reflects our belief that art education exists within the community and thrives best when serving the community. It is our dream that through collaboration and community we shall continue to nurture the natural occurrence of artistic development in children.

Title: The Classroom
Theme: Education
Materials & Techniques Used: Sketching on cotton with mending edges
What is your artwork submission about?
This art piece is to help remember how important art is in all subjects, basically the primary ones. Without art we would not have the tools that are used everyday. There are music concepts in the picture to bring back the idea that music is part of art. Overall this picture is a hidden collage of reasoning and symbolism.
Did you enjoy this project?
Yes I did. This project helped explain a need for art education while presenting a unique way for drawing.
Do you have any ideas for other IFC projects?
Space programs are evolving at lightning speed, which makes it hard to predict where Earth will stand in a decade from now with technology.
